National Wear Red Day is This Friday!

Today at work I had the opportunity to attend an informational session on heart disease to raise awareness on how it is the #1 killer of American women.  The session focused on what women can do to understand their risks and work to prevent heart disease.

On National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 5, 2010, millions of people will choose to wear red and speak up against heart disease. It gives women and men everywhere a way to show their dedication and support of the cause, and empowers them to take action for their health.

For more information on Heart Disease, check out this presentation from The American Heart Association.  They say it much better than I would!

I also learned about the food pyramid today, in realtion to eating a heart-healthy diet.  Did you know that the food pyramid guidelines are updated every 5 years? I had no idea!! The current food pyramid is below:

Each color represents one of the guidelines, and activity was added to the logo. Pretty cool. A new food pyramid is due out in 2010. It will be intesting to see how it changes.

Go to MyPyramid.gov for more information on the food pyramid.

Please wear red tomorrow and spread the word on the importance of heart health to your family, friends, and coworkers.
